In the new issue project Gay Talk I met in the Mexican resort town of Puerto Vallarta with To Sergey — a content creator and actor who has been working professionally in the adult industry for four years.
Here are the main points from our conversation: why porn is, above all, acting; what sex workers’ personal lives are like; and why it can be difficult for professionals to find a partner outside the industry.

Puerto Vallarta — a “gay mecca” for Americans
The conversation takes place in Mexico, which the protagonists describe as the perfect destination for a gay vacation and film shoot. In Puerto Vallarta, according to the protagonists, there’s an atmosphere of absolute freedom: people can walk around town wearing nothing but thongs, and dozens of content creators are working on the beaches at the same time. Sergey came here as an ambassador for a major event bringing together content creators from the U.S. and Latin America.
What's the difference between OnlyFans and studio shoots?
Sergey distinguishes between these two areas as fundamentally different types of activities: OnlyFans — It involves building a personal brand and establishing a “connection” with the audience. The viewer should feel like a friend of the actor, and the content is presented as part of real life. Studio porn — It’s “pure art” and performance. Here, the actor transforms into a character, follows the script, and often finds that recording the dialogue is much more difficult than filming the sex scene itself.
That said, on set, an actor doesn’t always know who his or her co-star will be: the choice is often left to the producer, and the “chemistry” between people on set is a matter of luck.
Live Performances
In addition to filming, Sergey participates in live sex performances at clubs (such as the famous KitKat in Berlin). He admits that he enjoys exhibitionism and interacting with the audience: “Their stares turn me on.” It’s important for him to see people’s reactions in person, even if it’s at a large public event.
How Relationships Work and Why “Sex at Home Is Rare”
One of the main topics of the interview is the paradox of personal life in the sex industry. Sergei maintains that, for him, sex at work and intimacy in a relationship are two completely different things.
The protagonist compares having an affair to going to the bathroom: “You can pee anywhere, but it’s nicer to do it at home.” In his view, physical contact outside the home isn’t cheating in the conventional sense.
Because sex becomes a chore, it often takes a back seat in relationships. Sergey said that in one of his previous relationships, they had sex only twice in six months, since the couple valued emotional connection and spending time together more.
Sergey is currently dating a guy from Mexico whom he met while filming in Peru. Even though one speaks English and the other speaks Spanish, “body language” and their emotional connection are enough for them.
Why is it dangerous to date fans?
Sergey is skeptical about the idea of having a relationship with his followers. In his opinion, fans often fall in love with a screen persona, and when they encounter the real person, their “mental framework breaks down.” They may become jealous or demanding, without understanding the specifics of his profession.
The ideal partner for the hero is someone who will admire his career just as much as if he were a successful lawyer or doctor. "I want to find a partner who will be proud of what I do.", — the actor concludes.
