"Heteroflexibility" is the fastest-growing type of sexual identity in 2025. What does that mean?

According to data from a dating app Feeld, as published in the “Raw 2025” report, specifically "heteroflexibility" has become the fastest-growing sexual identity. Over the past year, the number of users who identify themselves in this way, increased by 193%.

What is heteroflexibility?

This term describes people who, in general, consider themselves heterosexual, but remain open to sexual experiences or relationships with members of the same sex. In this model of sexuality, attraction to the opposite sex is predominant, although it is permissible a certain degree of flexibility in relation to other experiences.

Experts note that the shift from strictly heterosexual to heteroflexible has become one of the most common changes in user profiles. This is interpreted as abandoning "red lines" and a desire not to limit oneself to predefined categories.

Who are these people?

Contrary to expectations, the main growth is not driven solely by members of the youngest generation. The statistics break down as follows:

• 65% — Millennials (born between 1980 and 1996);
• 18% — Generation Z (1997–2012);
• 15.5% — Generation X (1965–1980).

Why does this happen?

Experts attribute this trend to global shifts in the perception of human nature. Dr. Luke Branning, a professor of applied ethics at the University of Leeds, emphasizes that sexuality is not something fixed or unambiguous once and for all. According to him, human attraction does not always fit into “clear and predictable” patterns.

The rise in the popularity of heterogibility in 2025 suggests that people have begun to explore their needs more often, without categorizing experiences as “normal” and “abnormal” or “acceptable” and “unacceptable.” This is not merely a statistical shift, but an indicator of society’s growing openness and desire to better understand itself.
