Daniel Craig, best known for his role as James Bond, recently made a public appearance in a casual outfit: a gray sweater, jeans, and… slippers! The actor, who is now 56, presented his new film “Queer” in New York and gave an interview to theater critic Hilton Els.

Daniel Craig, 56, took the stage at an event called "An Evening with Daniel Craig" at BAM Howard in New York on Friday night. He looked stylish in a gray sweater with a pigtail knit, which he combined with house slippers.

The new movie “Queer”
In this historical romantic drama set in 1950s Mexico City, Craig plays American émigré and war veteran William Lee. His character starts a romantic relationship with a young man named Eugene Allerton, played by 31-year-old Drew Starkey. The film is based on the semi-autobiographical novel by William Burroughs.
"Queer" features several explicit scenes between the actors. Craig points out: “You need to leave your ego at the door. You just need to let it go. There are no rules here“.
Work on “A Quantum of Mercy”
Craig also spoke candidly about his experience working on the 2008 Bond film *Quantum of Solace*. He admitted that the film “just didn't quite work out” and referred to the filming period as “a damn nightmare“.The problems arose because there was no script ready: “We shouldn't have started production at all. As a result, I had to write most of the script for the film myself“.
Doubts about Bond's role
Craig played Agent 007 in five films, from “Casino Royale” (2006) to “No Time to Die” (2021). But he admitted that he initially turned down the role, fearing it would limit his opportunities in the film industry. He explained: “At that time, there wasn't a script yet, … I just thought, “Well, until I see the script, I won't be able to make a decision.”. The actor was afraid that the role of Bond would turn his life upside down: “I was making good money, so if I had dedicated my life to what I was doing at the time, I would have been more than happy“.
Burnout and focus on Bond
Between Bond films, Craig starred in other projects, such as *The Challenge* and *Cowboys vs. Aliens*. But he admitted that his attempts to demonstrate his versatility as an actor led to burnout: “I think I felt like I had to prove myself. And after a while, I just realized that I didn't have the strength to do it“. In the end, Craig decided to focus on the role of Bond: “It was better to just focus on Bond“.
