Victor Martinovich
Viktor Martinovich is an example of successful mainstream literature. His books are translated into different languages, republished, and signed by the author in 2018 lined up queue. Martinovich creates the image of a subtle Belarusian intellectual. He has an elegant command of words, wears jackets and writes novels that cause disputes and discussions over and over again.
In 2009, the former deputy editor of Belgazeta published his first novel "Paranoia", which became a kind of prophetic. There were rumors that the book was secretly banned from sale in stores in Minsk, but there is no confirmation of this. In October 2010, the New York Review of Books published a review of a book by American historian Timothy Snyder entitled In Darkest Belarus.
Martinovich has a degree in art history and taught at Yerevan State University. Now the writer does not appear in the public field, but even this silence looks especially stylish. Last Post by Writer published in September 2023.
Olgierd Bakharevich
Punk, nonconformist and, perhaps, the main Belarusian writer today. Most recently, one of the author's main novels "Dogs of Europe" was translated into German. Bakharevich is an intellectual aesthete and at the same time a rebel. In the 90s, he created the punk rock band "Pravakatsiya", and his essays always hit the nerve of Belarusian modernity.

In 2014, the writer published the text "Ganarovaya Hanger", which made a stir in the Belarusian cultural field. With his essay, Bakharevich scathingly walked over embroidered shirts as an element of village culture. The writer did not insult the traditions, but tried to convey that Belarus is a European country and its culture is much more multifaceted and deep than the simplified stereotype of the country.
The style betrays the writer not only in writing, but also in the image. An earring in his ear, a well-groomed beard, a cigarette in his hands - all this creates the image of a modern European writer, whom you want and should be proud of. Separately, we recommend subscribing to Facebook writer: Bakharevich writes often, juicily and is definitely worth following.
Sasha Filipenko
A travel writer as well as his books, which can be found in large European stores. Yes, Filipenko's novels have been translated into European languages, and the writer himself now and then appears in the Swiss press.
Filipenko's popularity came after the publication of his debut novel "Former Son" – allusions to modern Belarus. In it, he tells about a guy who fell into a coma after the tragedy on Nemiga in 1999. When he woke up 10 years later, he found that the whole country was in a coma with him.
In June 2023, Filippenko Irina Shikhman in the project "And to talk?" told about his book "Cremulator", which tells the story of the first Soviet crematorium.
Filipenko's style is laconic, and his novels do not exceed 300 pages. Filipenko is also laconic in style. He loves football, which is reflected in his appearance. The writer looks like Danny Dyer's character from "Football Factory". Impeccable casual, gray hair and always cool sneakers.
Kirill Staselko
Kirill Staselko not only looks great, but also promotes books and Belarusian literature perfectly. She actively communicates with readers on social networks, creates merch and various interactives. The writer launched the podcast "Malus", where former actors of the Kupala Theater voice art stories in the format of productions and readings.
Just imagine the creativity of the author. After the release of the novel Marginalis, the writer, together with the InfoGrapher.by project, launched the campaign "Feeling Belarusian". Quotes from famous Belarusian writers were published on social networks, and readers posted selfies with a Belarusian book they liked. Staselka's book was supported by fashion designer Sasha Varlamov, blogger Anna Bond, composer Eduard Hanok, TV presenters Evgeny Bulka and Anton Martynenko.
Staselko travels a lot, charges and energizes everything around. The 34-year-old writer has published four books and continues to enjoy life together with readers. We recommend subscribing to the author's page in Instagram and follow the writer's new literary moves.
Maxim Zhbankov
The main rock'n'roller of Belarusian journalism, biting and uncompromising. Zhbankov's style cannot be decomposed separately: he is such an integral and powerful figure in Belarusian criticism and literature.
Zhbankov disassembles old meanings to the bone and creates new ones. It is pleasant to listen to and read. Zhbankov's style is dense and sharp. It feels like Tom Waits is talking to you, but your own, Belarusian, is even more pleasant.
Zhbankov has published two books: "SloMo: Hatnyaya krytyka kulturnaga dyzaynu" and "No style: belkult between Woodstock and Dazhynkamy". In them, he dissects Belarusian culture and distributes diagnoses of the domestic intelligentsia. Diagnoses are sometimes unpleasant, but this is how real criticism should look: stylish, daring and provocative.
