“Can gay men be friends?” A woman appeared on the Gay Chat video podcast for the first time—and everything immediately went off the rails

A new episode of the podcast, titled “Can Gay Men Just Be Friends?”, has been released on the Gay Talk YouTube channel. Throughout the video podcast’s run, Oleg had never invited a woman on the show, but this time he broke with tradition: his guest was Marta, a New Yorker raising two children (и Олег почти сразу залез к ней в грудь!).

The conversation quickly moved beyond the usual topics and turned into a group therapy session about the nature of human relationships, sex, migration, and loneliness.

The episode centered on the age-old question of whether platonic friendship is possible between gay men, as well as between men and women. The participants agreed that gay men often find it easier to discuss sensitive and aesthetic topics with women, but that mutual trust frequently comes with a catch. “They’re like a Trojan horse,” the hosts joked as they discussed stories of how the line between friendship and romantic attraction can become blurred in both straight and gay social circles.

Oleg, Andy, and Marta spoke candidly about their first year living in the US, which was marked by severe depression, chaotic relationships, and alcohol abuse as an attempt to overcome their inner inhibitions. According to Andy, his past experiences also included paranoia about health and safety and searching for himself in the most unexpected places. Marta, meanwhile, shared her experience of a difficult relationship with a local partner that went from a beautiful fairy tale featuring stays at the finest hotels to codependency.

All three now say they have reassessed their values. Wild parties, the endless search for partners, and superficial encounters have given way to personal growth, business, caring for loved ones and children, and spiritual practices such as kundalini activation (whatever that means).
