On July 28, Daniil Neonov, a candidate for the Council of Deputies of the Shchukino district, was detained in Moscow. At about 12:50, he was taken to the Mitino police station. The official reasons for the detention have not yet been reported.
Neonov participates in the elections as a self-nominated candidate. In his program, he advocates freedom of speech and the Internet, political competition, equal rights, privacy and openness of municipal authorities.
The candidate became known thanks to an unusual campaign campaign. He went out to collect signatures in stockings, a cat mask and ears. Neonov himself openly calls himself a femboy and uses this image as part of a public campaign.
According to Neonov's relatives, during the arrest, the police allegedly said that a certain deputy of the State Duma was dissatisfied with his agitation and appearance. The name of the deputy is not called, there is no official confirmation of this information yet.
It is also reported that the police officers demanded to provide them with Neonov's phone for verification. He refused to hand over the device without the presence of a relative.
According to the initiative group of Ekaterina Duntsova, the lawyer who arrived at the police station was initially refused to report whether Neonov was in the police station. Later it became known that the lawyer was not allowed to see the candidate for more than five hours, and Neonov himself did not get in touch. The lawyer filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office.
At the time of publication, it is not known whether an administrative protocol was drawn up against Neonov and whether any charges were brought against him. There are also no reports of his release yet.
