Russian banks have stopped working through foreign browsers because of the revocation of SSL certificates. Due to sanctions, Russian banks are switching to the domestic MinTsifry certificate, which most browsers simply do not support.
Websites no longer work in Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Firefox. The revocation of SSL certificates usually leads to browsers starting to mark sites as "Unsafe" or may even block access to them altogether.
The technical isolation of Russian websites has affected the entire core security infrastructure: in the IT community, people are discussing that the certification authority GlobalSign Starts Revoking Security Certificates (SSL) for all Russian resources that fell under European sanctions. This decision is linked to a change in GlobalSign’s position on compliance with the international sanctions regime.
Previously, security certificates were revoked for the entire VKontakte (VK) holding company, as well as for the state-owned messenger MAX. All this could create serious difficulties for users of the web versions of VK services and become an additional argument for the Russian authorities in favor of switching to “domestic” encryption certificates, which will work only in the “Yandex” browser.
