In recent years, the Russian army has repeatedly declared its superiority and readiness to repel any threat. Russian officials often called it "the best army in the world." However, the "special operation" in Ukraine in 2022 turned out to be a colossal shame for Russia. This war has shown not only the heinousness of attacks on a neighboring state and the criminality of killing civilians, but also demonstrated numerous problems within the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Let's take a look at why the army, which should have been considered one of the strongest, turned out to be so vulnerable and ineffective.
Corruption and poor governance
One of the key factors that undermines the combat capability of the Russian army is corruption. Bribery and embezzlement are rampant at all levels of the military structure. Officers often steal money intended for training, equipping and upgrading weapons. As a result, soldiers are forced to use old equipment and ammunition, and there can be no talk of any modern training.
In addition, ineffective leadership and bureaucracy play a significant role. Generals and high-ranking officers are more busy with career intrigues and maintaining their positions than with real combat missions. As a result, key decisions are made slowly and often incorrectly, resulting in battlefield casualties.
Poor training and low morale
Another serious problem is the low level of training of soldiers. During the service, young people often face violence, hazing and tyranny of their superiors. This leads to the fact that many are simply afraid to talk about problems and ask for help. Morale in such conditions is at an extremely low level, and any motivation and dedication can be forgotten.
Against this background, cases when Russian soldiers are forced to remove boots from the dead or protect tanks with sandbags stand out especially clearly. This is not just evidence of poor training, but also clear proof that the command on the ground does not provide basic conditions for its subordinates.
Obsolete equipment and lack of resources
The Russian army suffers greatly from a lack of modern weapons and equipment. Although officials claim that the armed forces are receiving the latest developments, in practice it turns out that most of the equipment is outdated and needs to be replaced. The war in Ukraine has shown that Russian tanks, armored personnel carriers and other equipment are often inferior in quality and reliability to their counterparts of the enemy.
In addition, due to corruption and bureaucracy, resources are distributed inefficiently. As a result, many units find themselves without the necessary equipment, ammunition and even food. This affects the combat capability and morale of soldiers.
P.S.
The war in Ukraine has exposed many problems that have been hushed up or ignored in the Russian army for many years. Corruption, ineffective leadership, poor training and morale of soldiers, outdated equipment and lack of resources all lead to the fact that the Russian armed forces are unable to carry out their tasks. This situation not only undermines the combat capability of the army, but also causes tremendous damage to the country's reputation in the international arena.
Instead of being proud of illusory achievements and turning a blind eye to problems, the Russian authorities should seriously engage in reforming the army. This is the only way to hope for the creation of truly combat-ready and professional armed forces that will protect the interests of the country, and not disgrace it at the world level.
