Today we will talk about how to subscribe to independent news if you live in a country where freedom of speech is persecuted.
When traditional independent sources are blocked, it is time for alternative paths. The Internet pampers us with a variety of news sites, bloggers and individual journalists, who often offer non-standard and interesting points of view. The safest way to subscribe to them and stay up to date with news and events is to subscribe to their email newsletters.
Why email?
Email newsletters provide a fairly high level of confidentiality, since the information is sent directly to your inbox, and not transmitted through messengers or social networks, which can be easily checked by the security forces (subscriptions to many independent media in some countries, for example, in Belarus, face criminal liability). The fact is that subscribing to an email newsletter is quite difficult to determine (unlike channels in messengers and pages in social networks).
Need to install a VPN?
Most likely not, but it depends on the mailing. In principle, there is no need install VPNto read any newsletter, but it may be impossible to follow links in it without a VPN if you are in the country where the site you subscribed to is blocked. But some email newsletters are collected in such a way that you do not have to click on links, since all the information will be set out in the received email. Or the mailing may contain links that the authorities have not blocked ("mirror" of the site).
I'm ready to subscribe! What do you need to do for this?
Follow our instructions. Every point in it is important.
