Callen-Lorde Community Health Center (Chelsea)
About
A leading LGBTQ healthcare center in the United States (a Federally Qualified Health Center, FQHC); its roots date back to 1969, and it has operated from its current Chelsea building since 1998. Care is provided regardless of ability to pay: Medicaid, Medicare, and many insurance plans are accepted, and uninsured patients can pay on an income-based sliding scale. Services include primary care, sexual health, free rapid HIV testing (results in 20 minutes; confidential, test-only walk-ins are welcome), testing for other STIs and hepatitis, PrEP and PEP, HIV treatment and the Ryan White program, behavioral and mental health care, transgender and women’s health care, dental care, vaccinations (including hepatitis, HPV, and mpox vaccines), and a pharmacy. Language assistance is available in English, Spanish, French, and Haitian Creole. There are also locations in the Bronx and Brooklyn. Appointments are required for most services; walk-ins are accepted only for testing during the specified hours.
