About
A casual gay bar in the East Village (between 1st Avenue and Avenue A), opened in 1999 as The Bar; after a fire, it was rebuilt and renamed Phoenix. Known for cheap drinks, the best jukebox in the neighborhood, and an unpretentious, welcoming atmosphere for regulars; the interior was renovated in 2024 after a change of ownership. Pool, darts, a photo booth, plus an outdoor patio and Sunday BBQs in summer. Regular events include Wednesday karaoke (from 22:00), Thursday trivia (20:00), TRL Tuesdays, Saturday bingo (18:00), Queer Pong, pop-up drag shows, and weekend DJ sets. The crowd is mixed, with more men. Nearest subway: L — 1st Av.
