42-year-old Russian designer Gosha Rubchinskiy is facing new public allegations. Vasily Eremin, a former participant in his shows, claimed on social media that the designer sexually abused him at the age of 15 while he was working on the Gosha Rubchinskiy FW/18 show. Rubchinskiy “categorically denies” the published allegations.
According to Eremin, he decided to make his story public years later because he had learned of similar incidents involving other minors and wants to warn young people working in the fashion industry.
“I realized almost immediately how terrible and wrong it was. <…> I started telling absolutely everyone about it and warning them. That helped me, and I didn’t feel dirty or guilty, nor was I ashamed. I have already come to terms with it. I have a family, a beloved wife, and a son. I am writing about this now, after all this time, because it is still happening. Many acquaintances and people in the industry are talking about it”, the post reads.
Along with his own statement, he posted screenshots of messages from other users sharing similar stories and rumors about anonymous incidents backstage.
Gosha Rubchinskiy’s representatives categorically deny the published allegations. The designer’s press team stressed that they treat such claims with respect and the utmost seriousness, but that any conclusions must be based solely on facts and evidence established in accordance with the law. All published materials have been referred to lawyers for legal assessment and to potentially defend Rubchinskiy’s honor, dignity, and business reputation. The designer’s representatives also pointed out inconsistencies in some of the anonymous messages—in particular, references to alleged misconduct during Paris Fashion Week, even though the collection was shown in Moscow.
This is not the first such scandal involving the designer. In 2018, 16-year-old model Jan Silfverling published messages in which Rubchinskiy asked him to send revealing photos from the bathroom. At the time, Rubchinskiy’s team said it had been a routine street casting for a lookbook and that the screenshots had been taken out of context and edited.
