The Russian command has redeployed a second warship to the Baltic Sea: just days after the destroyer Admiral Levchenko, the missile frigate Admiral Kasatonov has also arrived there.
It is considered one of the most modern vessels in the Russian Navy. Commissioned in 2020, the frigate belongs to the Admiral Gorshkov class and, according to Russian sources, can launch Kalibr and Zircon cruise missiles. More recently, it was deployed to provide security and escort Russian cargo vessels in the Mediterranean Sea and the English Channel, Reports BILD.
In late July, Russia had already sent the Northern Fleet destroyer Admiral Levchenko to the Baltic Sea. The warship, which is more than 160 meters long, belongs to the Soviet Udaloy class and has been in service since 1988. Admiral Levchenko was designed for anti-submarine warfare and is equipped with air defense systems, torpedoes, deck guns, and shipborne helicopters.
Just a few days ago, Vladimir Putin threatened European countries that take action against Russia's “shadow fleet.” He called inspections by Western countries “nothing less than piracy and robbery.” Putin promised that Russia would respond with “reciprocal measures,” namely operations to board European merchant vessels.
