Three years of rumors, a single photo of them together in Thailand, and a pair of black sandals have become the main pieces of evidence in a story that’s got the entire Spanish-speaking internet buzzing. There aren’t many facts. But there’s more than enough viral potential.
You probably missed the moment when one of this year’s most absurd celebrity stories blew up on the Spanish-language internet. It has it all: a superstar known around the world, a 28-year-old adult content creator, a former “Miss Universe” contestant, a Thai resort—and a pair of black rubber flip-flops that supposedly settled the whole thing. To figure out where this all came from, we need to go back to July 2023.

July 6, 2023: Ricky Martin and his husband, Jwan Joseph published Joint statement: They are divorcing after six years of marriage. Jwan Josef is a Swedish-Syrian abstract artist; they met on Instagram in 2015, when Martin came across his work. On his X page, he periodically posts screenshots from the gay dating app Grindr with a comment "Whatever. I'm still single.".
After his name appeared in the tabloids alongside Martin's, his number of followers increased significantly—this is an important detail for understanding what happened next.
Act Three. Thailand, August 14, 2024
About a year after the divorce— August 14, 2024 — Max Barz posted a photo on Instagram and X: he and Ricky Martin are standing shoulder to shoulder, both smiling. Martin, wearing a white T-shirt, is making the “peace and love” sign, while Barz is wearing a black one. Judging by the geotag, the photo was taken in Thailand.

Keyword — "otra" (one more). Barz directly hinted that this wasn't their first meeting, but didn't provide any further details. The Spanish-language media reacted immediately: for many, this served as “confirmation” of the rumors from 2023. An important detail: shortly before that, Martin himself published a video from Thailand in which he said: “I met people, made friends—people I didn’t even know were here—but most importantly, I was alone. I felt very at peace.” There was no explicit mention of Barz.
