The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the tariffs Trump imposed on most countries around the world were unlawful
The court ruled that Donald Trump exceeded his authority by applying a federal law intended for national emergencies to impose his tariffs.
Companies that have already paid the duties are now entitled to seek compensation from the government. According to media reports, the amount could exceed $170 billion. The U.S. president called the court’s decision a “disgrace” and said he had a “backup plan.”
