What is EDGE, and why is it needed?
According to the company's official blog, EDGE is a new membership tier powered by Grindr's proprietary artificial intelligence stack called "gAI". Product Director A.J. Balance says the company is transforming into an “AI-driven” organization to make the user experience more effective.
According to the developers, EDGE is designed for people who want a “higher-quality experience”: to spend less time endlessly scrolling through their feed and to have more meaningful conversations.

What features will subscribers get?
For a high price, users will be offered a suite of tools that automate dating:
AI will generate brief summaries of your chats and remind you of "missed connections" (A-List) — those with whom a connection hasn't been established yet, but could be successful.
Discover A system for personalized profile recommendations based on user preferences.
Compatibility data and contextual information about other users (Profile Insights). For example, AI can tell you how often a person responds to messages and at what times they are most active in the app.

How much does it cost, and where does it work?
Since EDGE is still in the experimental phase, prices may vary. On social media, users are posting screenshots showing that a one-week subscription costs $219.99, and the monthly one—$349,99. According to Business Insider, in some cases, the monthly price can reach $499,99.
By comparison, the current premium plans are significantly cheaper: Grindr XTRA costs $22.99 per month, and the Unlimited plan costs $44.99.
EDGE is currently being tested in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and a number of cities USA. Users who do not want to use neural networks can disable AI features in their privacy settings; however, for paid subscribers, this would defeat the purpose of their subscription.
Why is this happening now?
Grindr is following the general trend in the dating industry. In 2026, many services began implementing AI: for example, Tinder is testing a matchmaking feature Chemistry.
The shift toward AI-driven features is taking place against the backdrop of the service’s mixed reputation. In early 2026, users complained about “buggy” ads and questionable profiles, while Grindr also supported a bill on age verification promoted by Republicans. Despite this, the company continues to seek ways to monetize its audience through high technology.
