World Naked Gardening Day is an international holiday on which gardeners from different countries work in their gardens and vegetable patches without clothes. The official reason for the holiday is as follows: “Feel at one with nature“.
World Naked Gardening Day has been celebrated on the first Saturday in May since 2005.
How can you celebrate World Nude Gardener Day?
It's great if you have a huge garden where you can walk around naked, but for most of us, that's not realistic… No matter where you live, you can take part in World Naked Gardener's Day in whatever way is comfortable for you.
Many of us live in small apartments or shared houses without access to a garden. Even if you have to borrow a houseplant from your neighbor, you can still enjoy the joy that comes from taking off your clothes and immersing yourself in a little piece of nature.
How you choose to approach gardening is entirely up to you. You could go weeding, lie down on the grass, or simply gaze at a houseplant with a cup of coffee and a pensive look on your face.
Should I share my World Nude Gardener Day on social media?
If there's no photo on Instagram, no one will believe it actually happened. Naked gardeners feel especially at home on Twitter, where there's practically no censorship, but on Instagram, they have to follow the rules.
You need hashtags #wngd or #worldnakedgardeningday

5 Tips for Gardening Naked
If you're tired of overalls, plaid shirts, heavy boots, and even underwear, this is your chance to break free from the shackles of clothing and garden in complete harmony with nature.
We don't want you to be caught off guard by potential dangers, so here are a few tips on how to work safely—and, let's say, decently—in the garden while naked.
1. Use sunscreen
One of the key functions of clothing is protection from ultraviolet rays. Over the winter, when we spend little time in the sun, our skin becomes particularly vulnerable, so the timing of World Gardening Day—spent in the nude—is not the best choice. Be sure to apply sunscreen generously and don’t forget to reapply it to avoid painful sunburn. (То же самое касается и репеллента от насекомых!)
2. Beware of prickly and stinging plants
Coming into contact with stinging nettles or poison ivy without clothes on will be much more unpleasant than if you’re wearing regular clothes—we guarantee it! To avoid itching in very sensitive areas—which can last for several days after the holiday—stay away from unfamiliar plants and known irritants.

3. Be careful with your… body parts
Without underwear to keep certain body parts in place (up top for women, down below for men), you may encounter unexpected obstacles while working in the garden. We recommend being careful not to accidentally splash fertilizer on any sensitive areas of your body. Otherwise, you may face some rather unpleasant consequences—the kind that aren’t typically discussed in polite company.
4. Be mindful of your neighbors
If you’ve decided to garden without holding back, we applaud your confidence. However, your neighbors might not be quite as enthusiastic—especially if there are children in the area. To avoid legal action (and let’s be honest, no farmer wants to spend money on that) or widespread public condemnation, make sure there’s a reliable barrier between you and your naked charms.
So go ahead, naturalist gardeners! Spread the compost, plant your seeds, and enjoy being one with nature—nothing stands between you and this rich, life-giving soil. And best of all, on this day, you won’t have to do laundry when you get home!
